MUHAMMAD’S TEACHINGS TO MANKIND

ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ Mālik Ibn-Aws Ibnul-Ḥadathān narrated, "I showed up asking, 'Who here exchanges dirhams (1)?' Ṭalḥah Ibn-'Ubaydullāh, who was with 'Umar Ibnul-Khaṭṭāb at the time, replied, 'Give us your gold (now), and come back to us when our servant is here so that we give you your dirhams.' 'Umar Ibnul-Khaṭṭāb interjected, 'No! By God, you will either give him his dirhams (immediately) or return his gold, for the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "The exchange of gold for dirhams is interest, unless it is done on the spot; the exchange of wheat for wheat is interest, unless it is done on the spot; the exchange of barley for barley is interest, unless it is done on the spot; and the exchange of dates for dates is interest, unless it is done on the spot."'" حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ وَعُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ حَتَّى قَبَضَهُ اللَّهُ. قَالَ وَفِى الْبَابِ عَنْ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَأَبِى لَيْلَى وَأَبِى سَعِيدٍ وَأَنَسٍ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ وَعَائِشَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.
